We Eegi Kerki
Southeast, Amsterdam | The Netherlands
Completed: 2013
Client: Evangelical Brother Congregation Amsterdam Southeast
Project summary:
Wi Eegi Kerki (Surinamese for Our Own Church) is a beacon of light in the Bijlmer. The yellow-white church radiates permanent light. Inside the sun - or if you prefer, the moon - enters the church hall through a hidden street of light. The reaction of one of the visitors: "It feels like a higher power is watching you protectively."A skylight has also been created in the 13-meter-high tower across the full width of the hall. Through this, indirect sunlight falls on the white wall.
